I worked for AMOR for the summer of 2005 - living in a tent in the desert, showering (at public banos) once a week, and leading groups of Americans through rural Mexico to build houses for the Mexican families who have been exploited by border factories and forgotten by their own government. Hardly any of them have running water, electricity, health care, or cars and live in shacks made of scrap metal and discarded plywood that cover dirt floors.
