Compound Fracture
I was typing “Superbowl” in an email and the Microsoft Spellcheck did not recognize it (suggesting that I change it to “superb owl”).  That is when, for the first time in my 22 years of life in America, I realized that Super Bowl is not one word.

One ongoing desire of mine is to incorporate more Yiddish terms into my working vocabulary.  I am not sure exactly why but like the conflicting elitist and colloquial natures of the language, how the words sound quirky, nonsensical, and impressively astute all at the same time.   However, I learned an important lesson this weekend: never use a Yiddish word before you have thoroughly researched its...

Have you heard (about) that billboard?
There is a new billboard on the platform of the NRW 49th Street stop.  It is a Target billboard advertising John Legend’s new album.  In the bottom lefthand corner there is a small box with a headphone jack and instructions to plug your earbuds into it.  I did just that this morning and heard John Legend’s new song.    Well done, marketing team.

Coexist
I went to see U2-3D last night with Joanna, Brian Kurtzman, and Holly Burt.  It was magical. Brian and I were singing along at the top of our lungs like we were really there. Joanna was getting seasick then fell asleep. It was really fun. Brian texted my dad in Tijuana and told him to go see it too.  My dad checked it out in San Diego later that night.   You should see it too. (site)

I watched “Tierney Gearon: The Mother Project” on The Sundance Channel the other week and it was magnetic.  I was instantly engrossed by her art, her life, and the intensity with which the two interact in an generational synergy.  Her photographs are all desperate attempts connect her to her mother, her to her own children, her children to her mother.  She pieces together her...

Dream Update
As fate (read:destiny) would have it I just “happened” to come across an article on MSN.com about dream interpretation.  I think The Smoking Man pulled some strings over at MSN so that I would get this very important information. It really is more odd than you can imagine - butchered sheep in formaldehyde, cabinets full of prescription drugs, piles of sand, ashtrays, a shark, bags of intravenous fluids, clocks ticking backwards, and two sides of a cow suspended like wings above an easy-chair in a twelve foot high tank of formaldehyde.  Unsettling but I actually really liked it. more photos

Waiting for the Bus in Harlem
Last night, as I leaned against a lamp post on the corner of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Fredrick Douglas Boulevard, I was shortly joined by two middle aged, African-American women who, like me, were awaiting the M60 bus.  I had one headphone on as half-listening to Jeff Buckley’s “Mojo Pin” and half listening to the sounds of the city. Urinal Update
Upon using the facilities at the Chipotle located on 52nd, I discovered that Kohler has the right idea regarding urinal design; it is obvious that thought was put into this cutting edge structure.  The Kohler urinal had a distinct V shape and decreased width (as opposed to the wide, flat plane of the AmStand), causing a larger angle of incidence and reflection.  Ideally I would prefer a V with a...

Thoughts Regading Urine Receptacles
While I was relieving myself this morning I had the following thought, “I wish i worked for American Standard - I would totally revamp the design of their urinals.”  I have always thought that the universal urinal structure and design is less than optimal and desperately in need of a more functional layout.  First, I would cut the width in half - no one needs to be able to pivot 45...
